Heavy Trucking Vehicles on Highway

Dealers using heavy highway vehicles are reminded that the period to file Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return, began July 1. Returns must be filed and payments made by August 31 for vehicles on the road during July. The return applies to motor vehicles with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more, which generally includes large trucks, truck tractors and buses. The IRS expects to receive almost 800,000 returns and encourages all to file electronically since e-filers receive their IRS-stamped Schedule 1 minute after filing. Note: Taxpayers with 25 or more taxed vehicles must electronically file Form 2290.
