BONUS SESSION: EPA addresses illegal engine tampering, enforcement of Clean Air Act
Far West Equipment Dealers Association hosted a special BONUS SESSION, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5, designed to educate and assist dealerships across FWEDA's territories in navigating the challenges of illegal engine tampering. Janice Chan, Senior Enforcement Officer with the U.S. EPA's Region 9 Enforcement Division, discussed the agency's National Compliance Initiative to stop aftermarket defeat devices for vehicles and engines, as well as best practices to avoid violations of the Clean Air Act (CAA).
Developed for dealership management and equipment technicians, the presentation outlined the obligations of equipment dealerships under the Clean Air Act, and the steps dealerships should take to avoid liability and ensure compliance with the law. Chan addressed the resources available to dealers to report tampered equipment they encounter for resale and service.
Up-to-date information on illegal tampering, including legal compliance forms and documentation, is available to association members through FWEDA's affiliation with EDA.
Chan, an attorney specializing in environmental law and policy, handles compliance evaluations and enforcement actions related to the CAA, particularly with mobile sources.
