Executive coach guides dealers with vision,
strategy as part of 2018 convention program
Three Far West dealerships will participate in executive coaching ahead of FWEDA’s 2018 Convention, “Leading Change and Succession,” Nov. 14-16 at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Palm Springs.
Kevin Burgess presents “The VIP Formula: People DON’T come first,” followed by facilitating a dealer panel discussion the morning of Nov. 15. The presentation kicks off a daylong schedule featuring industry updates and professional development at FWEDA’s 71st annual convention.
Burgess will work with up to nine representatives from three Far West dealerships to implement his VIP Formula.

Garton Tractor, Inc. started in 1954 when Bud Garton purchased the Ford Tractor dealership from his father-in-law Bill Cornforth. Bill Garton joined the company in 1979 after graduating from the University of the Pacific. A family owned and operated business, Bill works with his brother Tom and Bill's four sons, Ben, Grant, Drew and Ross Garton. Major lines are New Holland AG & CE, Kubota AG & CE, Hitachi Wheel loaders, Kawasaki Mule UV. There's 10 locations from the California's North Coast to the Central Valley.
Mason Machinery was formed in 1948 and ran by Hilmar Mason and his wife Reba out of their garage at their home. Today they carry Massey Ferguson, New Holland, MacDon, Supreme, and Great Plains equipment. Eric Mason serves as Vice President and General Manager of the business focusing on new ideas, processes and ways to grow the business.
Russell Ball oversees the southern district for 21st Century Equipment. This includes the John Deere dealerships in the towns of Flagler, Burlington and Cheyenne Wells, CO. The stores have 50 employees together and are a part of a 16 location dealer group that extends from Cheyenne Wells, CO to northern Nebraska and includes one location in Wyoming. Russ works with the corporate staff of 21st Century Equipment to provide sales and service of John Deere equipment across his district.
Burgess's clients have included Fortune 1000 companies, heavy industry and manufacturing, national lifestyle brands, international relief agencies, and educational institutions. Burgess enjoys getting “in the trenches” with business leaders who are “boots on the ground” doing the daily work that drives business forward. Among the challenges Burgess helps clients with are low employee engagement, leadership development and culture formation.
Developing this partnership with FWEDA is a first for Burgess, who will coach dealers June through November to explore ways they can leverage vision and talent toward a more dynamic business model. He'll then assemble a panel of individuals from each of the three dealerships he works with to share their insights and experiences at the convention.
